5 Edtech tools a teacher needs now

These are 5 EdTech tools for InPerson, Hybrid or Virtual Learning that will make your lessons more engaging and fun. Are you struggling to keep your students engaged during remote and in person learning, then keep reading because these are interactive Edtech tools that will bring your virtual lessons to life.

1. NearPod

NearPod is an interactive tool that allows you to upload your google slides and powerpoint You can use their tools to make your lesson extremely interactive. For example, You can insert polls, video, gamified activities, timed do nows and a quick formative assessment.

You can control the pace of the lesson by using the three different modes such as live participation, student paced and front of the class.  Younger students can record audio responses and recordings. Teachers can also add audio responses to lessons. This can be great for tracking fluency and students explaining their Math reasoning.

They also have a library of pre-made lessons that you can adjust to fit your needs.

 2. Class dojo

Classroom dojo is an interactive positive behavior management system. You can assign points for your whole class, individual and small groups.

Also, you can communicate with parents via text messaging and they are able to join your class so they can stay informed about their child’s behavior.

Students can respond to activities via audio, video, photo, drawing journal entry once they have a class code.  Parents can also use class dojo beyond at home, to reinforce positive behaviors at home. There is a free 7 day trial

3. TeacherMade

TeacherMade allows you to turn your paper worksheets into digital worksheets when you upload them to the teachermade platform.

You are able to add images, audio, video to enhance worksheet, add student responses on the worksheet, make comments on student work and share creations with other teachers. This is not an exhaustive list but you can check out their website to see or learn more.

4. Flip Grid

I would think of this as Instagram or tik tok for educators. You post a discussion question and add any relevant material for students to review.

Next, students then upload a video response that allows them to add text, photos and edit their responses. The platform is very engaging and students will find it fun to create video responses, even if they consider the topic boring

Make sure to put parameters on the types of videos you have your students create based on your objectives for the lesson.

Students can also give peer feedback to other students on their videos.  I would use this for small and whole group discussion when teaching persuasive writing or a class debate in Social Studies.

5.  Peardeck

Peardeck is similar to NearPod in that the teacher can create a google lesson and add in interactive features such as quizzes, informative assessments, audio,

You can also insert videos, animation, gifs using the google powerup chrome extension. In order to access the teacher dashboard, you will need to upgrade to the premium version.

Finally, I would choose one tool  that would best fit the needs of my students. Using all of these tools would be overwhelming.
